Arland Zatania Lojo

Arland, a native of Spain, brings a unique perspective to the dance world. Born into a family of Flamenco dancers, the Zatanias were known for their talents in dancing, singing, and playing musical instruments. While the arts were ever-present in his upbringing, from a young age, Arland's true passion lay in the realms of mathematics and physics. His STEM journey took an unexpected turn during his college years when he was re-introduced to the sounds of Hispanic music, the Salsa. While his initial motivation for learning to partner dance was to improve his dating potential, Arland discovered a profound love for dance that would change the course of his life. What started out as once a week soon developed into multiple dance practices as he joined his college's performance team. His nascent dance journey was starting to blossom.

Arland's dedication to dance reached new heights when he attended his first dance congress in 2021, the Canada Salsa & Bachata Congress. This cemented a pivotal point in the direction he wanted to pursue. He furthered his commitment to dance by joining "Saoco de Mambo," the partnerwork dance team at Viva Dance Studio. During this time, Arland embarked on a journey to learn multiple dance styles, including Bachata, American Smooth, and American Rhythm all the while maintaining his tenure on the Latin performance teams at his university. In 2023, he was fortunate enough to participate in his first competition at the very event that propelled his desire to pursue dance at a higher level.

Today, Arland is on a path to becoming a versatile dancer dedicated to mastering all the dance styles offered at his studio and beyond. He continues to perform with "Saoco de Mambo" and gives back to the dance community as the director of the beginner Salsa performance team at Case Western Reserve University.

Arland's journey is a testament to the transformative power of dance and the pursuit of one's true passions, even in the face of challenging career demands.
